May 17, Franc Woods rated it liked it Shelves: leadership-read. Having been in the concrete jungle for over 5 years in the small business world, it made sense to look at a model that had the potential for some new insights if I ever wanted to venture that way again. To start, the book had its good points and its not so good points.
I based it on 1 content, 2 style-readability-flow, and in this case… 3 sales pitch. However, there were some words of wisdom, most of which you can find in any motivational book.
There was one gold nugget at the end but more on that later. Style — 3 stars: Both authors come from a coaching background and it shows. For me, there were topics in the book that seem disjointed from the accompanying heading for a section.
So I could imagine the "coach" getting started about one issue and then getting excited about a particular other issue and taking a right turn in the book to make sure we knew how to cope in this new area. The material probably lends itself better for live presentation and "on the court" coaching then in book format.
I would think it would need some rewrite to reach audiences who engage with a more structured approach. Sales Pitch — 3 stars: Yes… it was. I felt like I was dealing with an infomercial that was trying to build to the ultimate prize at the end. The book did get there but my preference is to have useful material spread throughout the book.

I almost gave up about two-thirds of the way through. That is not what the authors want to happen. At least if they ever want to sell another book. Best part for last.
It was succinct and a great recipe for sales that any company can put into play. So why did I have to wait till the end to get to the meat? Not my favorite approach.
